Hi guys--I have a customer specifying curly flamed koa for binding and headplate on a 7-string archtop. Having trouble finding a source and wondering if anyone can head me in the right direction.
Precut pieces would be great but I could do the resawing if someone has a board at least 33" or 34" length for the bindings.
Thanks
Nelson

Nelson,
I've had good luck getting nicely flamed Koa from Bob Gleason at Pegasus guitars in Hawaii.
You might check with him.

Really appreciate all your feedback on the Koa. Sounds like Steve has what I need.
Thanks to all. What a great forum!

Hi Nelson,
you could also give Bruce Creps at Notable Woods a call, I have gotten some fantastic Koa from him in the past and he is great to do business with. His prices are right too.

I got to meet Bob Gleason at the ASIA symposium this summer, and he's also a great guy and he has some very nice Koa. I only bought some headplates tho (I didn't want to haul too much wood in my suitcase across the Atlantic), but I did see som very nice stuff on his table.

I bought koa for two guitars at auction on Ebay a couple of months ago from one James Stady. I was quite pleased, and he threw in freebies enough for a uke, headstock plates, etc.
